 Post subject: Question on objectives
PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2009 1:27 pm
Whenever an objective changes sides, should it be visible for all to see on the map? An example would be if a player was say using a calvary unit to scout or screen a flank and to get a good line of sight, and that just so happens to be an objective hex, your opponent would know someone was there.
This is just a thought, and it's probably been discussed here before.

You're right about "captured" objective hexes giving away that an enemy is around and about. Several times in games I've resisted moving into objective hexes just because I didn't want my opponent to know I was in that particular area. Of course, there are several quite nefarious and devious variations on take/don't-take those hexes: put your thinking cap on!

Sincerely,

Well, to be honest with you sir, that is one of things that to me is just a little too "gamey" for me.

I agree with LtCol Turner on this. I also don't like the 'gamey' tactic of cavalry lurkers left behind the opponents line intentionally, to try and snatch unsuspecting enemy leaders, and I won't use it.

I think it would be better to NOT be able to tell if an objective is taken by the enemy, until any of your troops are within something like 5-10 hexes of an objective. Not seeing should be part of FOW.

Also, I have done the same thing in larger scenarios to NOT take an objective when trying a flanking maneuver. If the objective has a large enough point value, I would leave a brigade to hold the area and take the objective when it doesn't matter any more.
