Gentlemen,

I stand alongside of Bill in recognizing the service and sacrifices that all of our servicemen and servicewomen have made on our behalf and continue to make each and every day. Thank you!

I also want to add my thanks to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. My flag is now displayed in your honor.

I'd like to specifically mention SGT Carrie Gasiewicz, who I served with at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb in December, 2004. She was a great soldier with a bright future in whatever she might have chosen to do in life. Rest in peace.

For those serving our great nation, thank you! I'd like to tip my hat to the young man in Afghanistan whose picture was taken manning his position in pink boxers and shower shoes, and then worried he might be in trouble for being out of uniform. Soldier, your unit was attacked while you were sleeping and you grabbed what was needed; your weapon, kevlar, and flack jacket. I do not believe AR 670-1 would apply in that situation; well done.

Fld Lt Neal Hebert
Army of the Mississippi
(Assignment pending)

To all the heroic men and women who wore the uniform and gave their lives for this country in so many different places...their sacrifices can never be forgotten nor adequately repaid. But they all have my prayers, admiration and gratitude. God keep them all.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
