Is anyone familiar with the painting by John Adams Elder of Stuart and his staff? In it the rider sharing the foreground with Stuart looks very Jackson like. Apart from the title, there are a couple of aspects of his attire that suggest it is not Jackson - if not, who is the officer - but there are other aspects that suggest it could be. I'm wondering if anybody knows who commissioned the work or knows the history of the pinting c 1880s?

Christmas with Stonewall Jackson and J.E.B. Stuart sitting at table
I suspect strongly that the men standing were actual general or staff officers.

The Stuart staff painting on horseback by Elder must be a painting hard to find. After many different searches, Try out the painting below.

The best I could find that looks like your description is by Troiani.

Yes it is hard to find. A friend of mine has a copy and is studying it as part of his PhD. I'm not sure if I am able to post it. I'll check and if so put it up.

Gentlemen: Check out the folowwing site: explorepahistory.com/displayimage.php?imgId=2236
This should bring up your painting. The officer in question won't be Jackson. He could be Stuart's engineer - note the red scarf.
