Back when I first started as Commandant of VMI, I use to email Don all the time to fix this or that from entry errors I and my Cadets would make. I continued to do the same when Ernie took over. Both these fine Gentlemen have assisted me numerous times and I am very grateful for that.

I don't know how many Legion of Merit decorations have been presented in the history of this club, but these particular two presentations are going to two very extraordinary officers for an exceptional bit of work and expertise. The DoR is the foundational heartbeat of this club, an excellent record keeping device that makes possible so much else. This is something not seen that often.

I salute both General Adams and General Sands.

Congratulations, and thanks for all that you two do, for all of us.

"General Sickles, this is in some respects higher ground than that to the rear, but there is still higher in front of you, and if you keep on advancing you will find constantly higher ground all the way to the mountains."
-Major General George Meade, Commanding the Army of the Potomac, July 2, 1863
