There is one more week left to sign up for this tournament and I'm sure that most of you were just waiting to make sure that you didn't win the lottery before you committed yourself. Well, news is that you ain't gonna win the lottery so let's sign up. Out of 430 possible entries, only 34 of us have entered (17 Rebs and 17 Yanks). That's downright embarrassing.

At least 75% of us probably own HPS Gettysburg (430 X .75 = 322.5). Half of those folks are either swamped or they don't visit the MDT (322.5 divided by 2 = 161.25). 161.25 that should sign up minus 34 that has signed up = 127.25 that something is wrong; and there ain't 127 of you (I'm not really interested in that .25 person because I don't know which part of the body that we got for .25) that are so persnickety that you won't play unless you have exactly all of the options that you want, so what does that mean? It means that ya'll are afraid that I'm gonna win this thing, aren't you!!!

General Simms <salute>

Sir, my compliments and appreciation for arranging this competition! I might point out that "winning the lottery" isn't exactly appropriate, because if I did win I would be able to do this full time [:D]

I could be wrong, however a reason for the small number of participants may be the number of members who actually frequent the tavern. Perhaps a dispatch from each army to their respective commands might increase participation?

My regards,

Col Neal Hebert

This is a most valuable and most sacred right - a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Sign ups end Saturday night at midnight Central Standard Time. At the moment we have 19 Yanks and 19 Rebs signed up (many signed up for more than one division).

Round Top has………..... 16 Yanks and 13 Rebs
Cemetery Ridge has….. 12 Yanks and 17 Rebs
Culp’s Hill has………... 10 Yanks and 10 Rebs

Get your name in the pot and have some fun meeting friends and kicking butt. When your own butt eventually gets kicked, you’ll have plenty of company. What if you win!!!

<i>Cemetery Ridge has….. 12 Yanks and 17 Rebs </i>

If there are not enough Yanks for CR then I'm quite happy to withdraw from the Cemetery Ridge. I really only want to play Turn based but thought I'd ease myself back into games by trying out Phase play with all these new fang dangle options........ Been a while since I played. In fact its that long that I had forgotten how ugly the graphics were in HPS compared to BG? I've loaded up some graphics mods now but the map for 06C doesn't seem to resemble the map I played many many times in BG tournies.....

The division brackets have been posted at http://garyned.tripod.com/High%20Tide%20Home.htm

If you want to look, then just open them. If you want to save them to your computer, then you have the option to do so.

I will get an e-mail out to all participants but not tonight as there is some gaming to catch up on. Everybody that signed up for Round Top and Cemetery Ridge Divisions is getting to play although the top seeds had to take a bye in the first round. I had to drop four commanders out of the Culp's Hill Division and all had voiced a willingness to be dropped (Gen Don Golan, Lt Gen Ned Simms, Gen Roger Hulinsky, and Brig Gen Ian Coyle) and all of us have games in other Divisions so we're in the tourney. No one plays the same person twice in the first rounds of the Divisions (I can't account for after the first round).

The tournament may not officially start until 31 January but getting an early start is not considered ungentlemanly. The ending deadline will be harshly imposed.

Good luck, Gentlemen! Start your horses (mules, donkeys, whatever you've got)!

Well, Col Hebert, you should be feeling ready and confident. You have some of the easiest draws in the tournament. In Round Top Division, you get to play some pitiful 5 seed named Lt Gen Simms and if you get by him, then you get to play Lt Gen Thompson (notice the AoS theme). In Cemetery Ridge Division, you get Gen Golen and if you get by him then you can be smacking your lips at playing the winner of another AoS mate Lt Gen Blackburn or a chance to get even with your esteemed Commander, Gen Huloutsky. In Culp's Hill Division, you only have to take on Gen Laub (notice that I'm not even spectulating what would happen if you won this match although you will have a clear cut advantage since he will have a new baby in the house that hasn't learned yet when to boogie and when to sleep - a process that takes 40 or 50 years for some of us to learn).

Colonel Hebert, being an officer from the Western Command you should have no problems looking after yourself. And even if you should accidently loose a game you will still be a Southern Gentleman and Officer and they will just be poorly dressed yanks[:D]

As General P.T.G. Beauregard once said "Winning a battle is easy, looking smart takes a Gentleman"

General McOmish <salute>

Sir, my compliments! Nicodemus does have his sights set on a fancy hat with a feather, perhaps due to some influence from General Hulinsky. I do have the best-dressed gator in the ACWGC [:D]

We are currently engaged in two of the three divisions scheduled and will make every effort to put the Yankees to their heels, although I do face skilled commanders in each.

Your obedient servant,

Col Neal Hebert
