I was trolling the internet when I came across a rare and unpublished study conducted by the Union Army early in the Civil War. What the union were concerned about was the loyalty of their officers and it had been noted that a high percentage of Confederate officers were considered handsome and dashing, whereas most Union officers looked like they had been beaten senseless by an ugly stick. So they were interested to see if they could gauge loyalty by looks of the officer.

The study (which polled 100 Confederate Cavaly Horses) found that indeed the Confederacy had more handsome officers by a factor of 3 to 1. This lead the Union to generally employ only ugly officers in high command positions. It can be seen that this policy has been carried though to the current day, were a high portion of US Army officers are indeed ugly – just compare them to USN/Marine and Air Force officers.

Lt General Blackburn,
Ed,

Since you seem to know the truth... that sometimes it's the horse that makes a brilliant cavalryman! I would see no reason why you would be opposed to a survey that polled 100 Confederate Cavalry horses.

After all... Mr Ed speaks better than most Yanks I know!

Of course, he's graduated from playing Chess to playing War Games... but I won't tell you what name he's using in the ACWGC Club! [;)]

Well, I probably live the most South than any other member, yet I am a "Northern" Officer.

Mebbe, I saw the truth in the mirror and selected my side to ensure that you folk in grey and assorted butternut continued to be the more handsome and dashing (Gen Custer, excepted)!

I don't mind. In history, the right side won! [:D][:p][:p]
