The campaign lasted from June 15, 1864 until April 2, 1865, claiming 50,000 Union soldiers and 32,000 Confederates. The campaign has been criminally neglected in the study of the Civil War, and this site aims to partially rectify that lack of coverage.

Hi, Colonel,

That is a pretty good site. If you get a chance, read "No Quarter", by Slotkin. It is an excellent account of the Battle of the Crater. One of the best ACW books I have read.

All, I just wanted to add a quick update on my Petersburg Campaign site. Many reports from the first volume of the Official Records to focus on the Petersburg Campaign (Serial Number 80) are up. I've started adding Petersburg related articles from Battles and LEaders of the Civil War, The MOLLUS War Papers, the Papers of the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts, and (soon) the Southern Historical Society Papers. Newspaper articles from many period newspapers have started to appear. I'm slowly working my way from June 1864-April 1864 on the NewsInHistory.com web site, and I'm working with a volunteer transcriber. I've also been working hard on the Today in the Petersburg Campaign series(which will be complete on April 10, 2010). Lastly, I've added quite a few maps from various public domain sources since you might have last checked in. I'd love to hear some feedback from knowledgeable Civil War buffs, so go check it out!
