Gentlemen of the Club,

For compelling real life reasons, Gen. Antony Barlow is stepping down as commander of the Union Western Theater.

This is a sad day for the Union. Antony has been a mainstay of the army and the club for longer than I can remember. He is a natural leader of men, a thorough administrator, a most loyal subordinate, and besides, a good friend. I am very sorry to lose him.

Please join me in a salute to Gen. Barlow. Thank you for your service to the club, Antony.

We understand how RL affects the club but it also means that General Barlow can always return. I regret that I never played a match with him. Good luck General.

Thank you General Walter for your kind words. It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve under you, and General Laub before you. It has also been an honour to work with the armies and the men of the Western Theater, as well as the commanders of the other Union Armies and the UMA. Thanks especially to General Riggs and General Meyer for your support and fine leadership of the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of the Tennessee respectively.

Let me now clear up any misunderstanding. I am not leaving the club, not after 11 years of fun and camaraderie! I'm merely taking a rest from high command and going back to a brigade in the AoC where I shall take the fight to the rebs with renewed vigour![8D]

Thank god I was wrong. We can't stand to lose our valued veterans. I still have a chance to play a match with General Barlow.[:D]

The ACWGC Union Army owes a monstrous debt to General Barlow, one that he will insist need not be repaid! Yet he cannot refuse the personal plaudits and respects that will come his way on this occasion. And while I would forcibly demonstrate for his return to High Command should the conditions change, I will also urge upon him the rest and relief that are his due and which he has so honestly earned. The Army of the Cumberland will only grow that much richer in character and skill with his return to its ranks! On a personal note, I have found Antony to be amongst the most even-handed, logical and gentlemanly individuals within this club, and a very warm and treasured friend. He is counted as one of the finest, bedrock officers of the ACWGC.

General Barlow,

Please excuse my tardy reply: I shall have to take my Assistant Adjutant General to task for allowing important correspondence to remain unanswered.

Thank you for all the effort you have made to further the cause of the Union and to make the ACWGC viable. Not many understand the time and effort required for those in command positions.
