Post subject: Assistance in Installing HPS to Vista PLEASE!

Gentlemen . . .

I am certain I'm doing something dumb here . . but for the life of Me I can't break the pattern and therefore do things correctly/ Perhaps a fresh pair of eyes, will spot my 'deliberate mistake' and steer me onto the correct Path? [;)]

My computer operates on Windows Vista.

I have installed HPS Gettysburg into a folder called C:\HPS\Gettysburg.

(This Folder is seperate to and outside of, the "Program Files" Folder - as per the instructions on the HPS site for installing on Vista.)

I can open the game using the cpg Icon and Woohoo! I can play against the A.I.

So far so good.

Now . . with my first PBEM File since my Return . . . . I have Problems.

I have also downloaded an evaluation copy of Winzip from the official site . . .

I click on the e-mail zip attachment containing the Gamefile and save the zip file to the Game Folder. I then unzip the pbem file here . . . and it lines up nicely with all the other scenario files.

I open Gettysburg, select the 'Play-by-E-mail' and 'Old' options and the pbem file appears in the Files Box . . . .

So upto this point . . I reckon I've done everything correctly. ???

I click OK . . . .

And I am asked if I wish to see the Replay . . . .

Whether I click Yes OR No . . . .

I get a black screen with one Hex . . . . [:(]

I've attempted opening the file a number of ways and delete any resulting pbem.xxx and pbem.yyy files each time . . but always get the same result . . .

What gives Guys? [}:)]

Any suggestions will be gratefully received and will prob'ly preserve any semblance of sanity I still have left!!

[xx(][:o)]

Thanks Peeps . . .

Do not save to program files, try saving to this:

C:\HPS\HPS Simulations\Campaign Gettysburg

Also go to this site for Vista help, top left of page. http://www.hpssims.com/

When playing PBEM games make sure you and opponent are using the same version or update, example 1.03

Pat, as LTG Groce has said one of you needs a version update. That is what the black screen with one hex usually means. Be sure you and you opponent reguarly delete the .xxx .yyy pbem files.

Verify your version of Gettysburg. It should be 1.04 to run under Vista.

Gents . . as ever,

Y'all have humbled Me with Your prompt and effacious assistance.

I am glad to say that I am now spilling Yankee blood at Brandy Station. [}:)]

My error was mainly to do with the Patch update didgerymathingumyoke, which I have now updated to 1.04 - altho, I also think that I had made a smaller error in how I configured the Game on my HD . . .

Fiddling away like a myopic, auld thing with smoke in it's eyes . . . I have somehow managed to get the durned Thang to do what I want it to do and I jest don't care HOW I fixed it.

It works, I can watch the nefarious Yankees and shoot 'em . . . .

That's good enough fer Me Thankee !!!! [:o)]

Once again to all that rushed to my assistance . . . .

My Thanks.

It's good to be Back! [:p]
