I notice in the tillercon pictures that a lot of players use the 2d view which I seldom use. What view do most of you use and why. I switch to 2d to see uncrossable hexes but that is about it, mostly stay in 3d zoom out, which I know limits my view, but I like it.

Strictly 2D, no sounds. No other way to keep track of what's going on. 5 minutes a year I may go 3D just to look at the terrain for a moment, but frankly, the HPS graphics are not that immersive compared to BG.

I play in 2D. I think it just gives me a better view of the board (map).
I will switch to 3D or sometimes 4D momentarily to get a better feel for terrain when the situation warrants, like an area with changing elevations.

I am the same as David - I use 3D almost entirely. I use 2D only to see creeks better on occasion.

Originally I played games entirely in 3D at all times. I've now arrived at a balance of playing pretty equally between the 2D & 3D views, switching back and forth between the different zooms as I play a turn.
I've suffered too many frustrations with the curse of the invisible Orchard in 3D to be able to do without the 2D view.

As an old school board gamer, I use almost always 2D view.

I play 3D although it is difficult to follow creeks without switching to 2D. With contours on, the elevations are easier for me to follow in 3D.

My preferred option is 3D zoom-out, with occasional 2D thrown in for the sake of getting the feel for the lay of the land.

I play in 2d. I like how the 3d looks but it is to easy to make a mistake in positioning units in it so to move I stay in 2d unless I am having trouble making out a road which does show up better in 3d.

2d zoom in mode mostly -- sometimes zoom out -but not very often (as it is too easy to make a mistep and get piled up along a road.

I like looking at 3d with some of the mods over at Brett's site -but don't generally play using it unless a very small scenario.

2D with highlighted contours occasionally switching to 2D zoom out when I need to look at the bigger picture.
