Just that Windows 7 is part of an evil plot to make lot of money at the expense of PC owners worldwide!!!! I hear you will likely even have to pay for it!!!! As a user of XP Pro, I'm gonna stay where I am until I have to pervert, eeeeerrr convert.....

On a more serious note, I have been told that if you did not like Vista, that there is a good chance you won't like 7, as it is basicly a "fixed" verion of Vista.....Perhaps some folks who actually use it could chime in here......

I got a new laptop with Win 7 on it. I had some issues getting used to it. Its fine now. All games run well with it. I liked XP. 7 is "different". I'm sure Win 8 or whatever will be along soon.

John,

Win 7 works very well. It runs much faster than Vista. I have a notebook with Win 7 as well (64 bit) a 1.3 ghz dual and it runs very well. Using Vista would have been sluggish. Use the 64 as the drivers are available.

You can also set it up to look and feel like XP which I do. I do not use all the fancy graphic (Aero) stuff that is not important to me.

Best Regards,

Updae and siome help required

Got the OS installed and am now having issues running an HPS game.

I went to teh HPS site and followed the instructions there about install directories etc... no joy.

the issue is, I get this error message that I cannot run the main exe file because my side by side configuration is invalid.. WTF?????

That is the MS scoop on sidebyside. (You can also GOOGLE side by side error for much, much more)

Other sources are technical, but some seem to point to a corrupted DLL file.

Perhaps, doing a REPAIR of windows OR a restore to before you started to install the HPS games. Then reinstall the games.

(I moved the topic out of the Smoking Room to give a wider viewing.)

I do not think it is an error related to the HPS games, per se.

Thanks Ernie

Googling returned many hints, most of which point to the need for Visual C++ file.

Odd thing is after I installed another HPS game, everything resolved itslef. After thinking about I realize that the first game I installed ( a game I am play testing ) may not have installed DirectX but the second game did. I could be wrong [:D]

That's probably the case John, also make sure you grab the latest updates for everything off the HPS site - as they are required to run the games on Win 7.

Ditto - I've been very happy with Win 7 since I went to it the end of last year - Vista needs to be burned, but Win 7 is worth the jump.
