Lt. Reed,

Good thoughts - thanks for sharing.

In years past, when the club was much smaller, more decisions were made along the lines you have suggested. Posts tended to get longer and longer, though, and members would go back and change their votes based on input from others. It sometimes made for some very confusing posts, and trying to track the total 'yes/no' votes was tough - not to mention amendments and people trying to vote for one section of a motion and against another section.

The club rules were rewritten several years back to simplify that. In practice, any member of the Cabinet provides a motion to me. After reviewing the motion and discussing it with the individual, I present it to the Cabinet for discussion followed by a vote. This generally has worked very well, although I must admit most votes (and most months!) are pretty boring. (For the most part, we simply review and approve recommendations from the CoA's for promotions within the General ranks.)

As Club President, I used to make monthly posts here on actions the Cabinet had taken the prior month, including the way each Cabinet member voted on each item that came up. I think that was worthwhile and helped keep the membership informed of what the Cabinet was doing. However, I dropped the ball and stopped doing that a while back. I'll plan to start that practice again.

Your humble servant,
Gen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory
