I have been a long time member of the ACWPT. It is really a great organization. I bought a Preservation Trust hat years ago and have found that if I wear it when I visit the battlefields the Park Service Guides are always extra friendly and happy to give me a free tour or two. I can only hope that this ridiculous Casino is never built! They will probably just move the location to Valley Forge though if they don't build it at Gettysburg. Anything to capitalize on an already established tourist attraction I guess.

There is always going to be a fight to stop encroachment on the battlefields and the CWPT is a great way to support efforts to STOP this from happening.

Aw cmon guys, think of the positive things.....Showgirls for battlefield guides....The ladies of Ill repute will double as historical re-enactors, or at least that's what they'll tell you while they call you "General Hooker"....The Casino will make a fortune on whether or not the Rebs will break through and win the war on the next showing of the movie.....

OK that was the attempted humor.....I'm against it too, of course....

I wouldn't swear to it but I seem to remember hearing from one of the Park Rangers at Gettysburg that at sometime there was a brothell located out near the Devil's Den.

This would have been after the battle, back when there was the small railroad out there.

Anyone else hear of such a thing?

From poking around it looks like the proposed casino is planned to go in near the South Cavalry Fields.

The site proposed is the Eisenhower Hotel and Conference Center on Emmitsburg Road just south of the battlefield, which has been the location of the HMGS Fall-In miniatures convention up until last fall, very close to the Gettysburg battlefield boundary.
Both the CWPT and the Friends of Gettysburg preservation groups are working to stop the casino and could use all the support they can get.

Hank I went to school out there and the "ladies of ill-repute" they have at certain establishments are reason enough NOT to go there...Sheesh...missing teeth is about the BEST you can hope for!

Post subject:  Gettysburg Casino Mason-Dixon Resort & Casino Hearings Aug 3

Gentlemen

I am sure most of you are aware of the new battle at Gettysburg following the proposal to establish a casino literally right on the doorstep of this unique and hallowed place. Those of you that are interested and feel strongly about trying to prevent this casino from being approved are referred to the following websites to sign the petition:

http://www.civilwar.org/take-action/spe ... ntrol.html

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/255/160/576

By the way the first site is an excellent resource site belonging to the Civil War Preservation Trust providing great maps and much other information on many battles - well worth a look.
