In the Western Theater officers are actively discouraged from bringing wives and or sweethearts on campaign. It is my view that along with tall hats wives/sweetheart on campaign can severely weaken not only an officers fighting spirit, but also his immoral wellbeing.
I have been receiving some feed back from some of my officers that my policy is unfair and this being the 1860’s , maybe I am becoming just a bit too old fashioned in my views. So I am willing to listen to my peers in the club. I am curious if any other commanders have similar policy on wives and sweethearts within their commands - your views gents?

Well, the problem is that you CANNOT ALLOW wives and sweethearts on campaign.

BUT, you can ALLOW wives OR sweethearts.

The immoral wellbeing of our Officers remains among the highest priorities of the Army of Georgia!

I favor the idea. Preparation of food would immediately improve. Washing of clothes would increase in both frequency and quality. Filthy language would disappear. Games of chance likewise.

. . . and if we could teach the ladies to skirmish, we'd all get a lot more sleep.

We have a general rule in the AoA....If she is very good looking, cooks, can pull a cannon or can carry two 12 lb. cannon balls under her arms and load a musket at the double quick....she can go.....all the fat ugly women who can not meet these requirements go up north to help the Yanks out....The purpose of the fat ugly women going north is to get the Yanks fat from their cooking and make them easier slower targets.....

I always thought you Southern boys left your wives and sweethearts at home so you wouldn't confuse them with the mules...not that it would bother some of you Rebels much..
