Hello all!

Newly trained Lt. here for the Union side. I have yet to get my actual assignment, but wanted to post and say Hi'all.

I have all the Talonsoft games, installed, upgraded and ready to go.

I bought the games back in the mid-1990''s. I was a member here back then.....went through and past the training and all.....then disappeared.....I believe my computer had died and they didn't get replaced quit so easily back then. (you know, we actually had dial-up internet, paid a buttload for a 586 and all) .

Hope to see you on the battlefield!

Welcome back to the Club, sir! We are glad to have you here.

Ah, yes, the old computers and dial-up... nightmares. I was actually talking to one of the kids I work with the other week and he had no idea what a floppy disk was. I never felt so old in my life! And I'm not even 30 yet!

Glad you made it back.

There are still some members playing the Talonsoft games.
You might want to take a look at the HPS games, as there are (many say) improvements from the BG series. Check them out at:
http://www.hpssims.com/

HPS Gettysburg is an excellent starting place and might have some interest to you, being from PA!

Also, please make use of the OPPONENTS FINDER for the Talonsoft games, right here on this board.

Welcome back Sir and you have a nice website there. If you ever decide to try out the HPS games, I am more than willing to meet your forces and point them in the right direction :D

Thanks for the welcome!

I am hoping to get my feet wet with the Talonsoft games first. I still need to get my moneys worth from the purchase 15 years ago! LOL!

I am interested in the Vicksburg and Atlanta HPS games, those have always been my favorite campaigns to study (besides Gettysburg).

Mark Swan,

Cool! How much longer is your training session? Maybe I will go up against you for the Lieutenant's Cup. It is a tournament for the newly commissioned officers.

I have a noob question:

I noticed in the Opponent forums for the John Tiller HPS series that you can play multiplayer? How does that work? Thanks.

After you have both teams, each team selects their troops. Maybe split by Corps and one player is the overall commander. Then you would agree on a strategy. Then player one plays his turn, moves, fires and melees his troops. THEN HE SAVES the turn; he does NOT END the turn. He sends the file to his partner. The partner plays his turns, moves, fires and melees HIS troops, then he ENDS the turn and sends the file to the OPPONENTS. Usually files are send to ALL opponents, including your partner, then everyone knows where the file is.

That is the basic procedure. Sometimes I have played MP games where only to most basic strategy is given, like " You attack the left flank and I will attack the center and right." And no other directions are given and both members play their part. Other times, I have played with more detailed directions and more directions every few turns or so.

It is a fun way to play the larger scenarios or campaigns. The KEY is the TURN IS ENDED by the last team member; others only SAVE the file.

1st Lt Gaff <salute>

Sir, my compliments. Welcome back to the club and we look forward to seeing you active in service despite your poor choice of armies. There is a member of my division who plays the Talonsoft scenarios exclusively, so please let me know if you have difficulty locating an opponent and I will see that you are introduced; perhaps he will be able to accomodate you. My email addy is listed in the Department of Records.

My compliments,

Thank you Sir!

My impression so far is that there appears to be Slim Picken's for the Talonsoft games! I would appreciate the introduction.

I believe my first game is currently being setup via the opponent finder threads. I will keep you (or your fellow member) abreast of my situation.

Thanks everybody for the welcome notes! I just started my first battle, so we shall see how I do!

I also want to share some news, only because we are all fellow Civil War enthusiasts (and because my wife will just say, "you are suck a geek."): My website got recognized on today's new episode of Civil War Talk Radio! Gerry Prokopowicz mentioned me by name and my website....so hopefully my obsession with the show will be shared by other enthusiasts (aka geeks).
