Gentlemen,

My apologies for the delay. I've been so wrapped up in the election of the next club president that I neglected to post a report on Cabinet activities for the month of September.

Come to think of it, that was the extent of the Cabinet activities for October - organizing for the Club President election. An election committee was appointed and the schedule for nominations, campaigning, and voting was published. Since then the election committee has been busy fielding questions and counting votes.

As this is apt to be my final report, I'll go ahead and share what the Cabinet has been doing in October as well:

First, seven promotions within the CSA ranks were voted on and approved unanimously. (Few, if any, promotion recommendations are ever voted against. The CoA's know who is eligible. The Cabinet approval is pretty much a formality, so the CoA's are accountable.)

Next, a revision to club rules is currently being discussed. More details on this will be released once the Cabinet has hashed it over.

That's it. The 'back room maneuvering' of the Good Ol' Boys is pretty quiet this month. Come to think of it, that's pretty much it every month. For the most part, things are pretty routine and there is little to report. I do realize some club members would prefer more details on the discussions. We don't keep official 'minutes'. A Cabinet member presents a recommendation to me, I present it to the Cabinet for discussion, and those who have input share it. Once I feel discussion has subsided I call for a vote. This is all done via e-mail. I doubt if anyone would think it necessary to post copies of those emails, so I just try to summarize the actions in my monthly reports here at the Tavern. Perhaps my successor will come up with a more transparent method of communicating Cabinet work - hopefully without inundating everyone with details. lol

Again, since this is my final monthly report, I want to take a moment to publicly thank all those who have served on the Cabinet with me over the past four years I've been serving as Club President. Most of them have had other duties above brigade command within their respective organizations, so Cabinet work was 'above and beyond the call of duty'. Often this extra duty involves little more than insuring club rules are followed, which is dull and monotonous but essential. I have appreciated the insights they have brought to this work and especially the reminders when I've dropped the ball. My hat is off to these gents - there is no way I could have done this by myself.

The polls close within a few hours. The election committee will tabulate all the votes tomorrow and, once any and all issues have been resolved, the results will be announced.

Before I turn over the keys to the private liquor cabinet in this office, however, I am opening up the bar for a final toast:

To everyone who has had a part in making this club the great place it is - which means all of you - Cheers!

Your humble servant,
Gen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory

"Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable and most sacred right - a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can may revolutionize and make their own of so many of the territory as they inhabit."

David,

It has been a pleasure working with you these past few years, you always went about your duties with integrity, honestly and a unique ability to see an issue from multiple points of view.
In a word your hand on the tiller, through storm and doldrums, was always steady.

< salute >
