Gents <salute> Have any of you read After the War, by David Hardin (www.rowmanlittlefielf.com). It follows the lives of a number of civil war identities, Lee, Mary Chestnut etc after the war. Had a good review. Cheers |

I haven't read it but I may have to get it. It sounds very interesting. I know Wheeler ended up commanding in the Spanish American War 33 years after the Civil war and I think one general might have served the Egyptian Pasha. Lots of history here. |

Hi, For the generals, "Generals in Blue" and "Generals in Gray" tells what happened to each one who survived the war. Of course, it was just a capsule biography. Not only Wheeler, but Fitzhugh Lee served as a general in the Spanish American War, although I don't think he was involved in combat operations like Wheeler. "After the War" sounds like it might deal with fewer folks in greater detail, and not limited to generals. I will check it out at Amazon. |
