Has anyone heard about the soon to be filmed cable movie called "To Appomatox" - Apparently Michael C. Hall (aka Showtime's Dexter) is supposed to play Grant. Will Patton plays Lee and Paul Giamatti is Longstreet. Bill Paxton plays Jackson. Looks like it is supposed to be a Civil War miniseries similar to Band of Brothers. I thought this was a joke at first but looks like legit. Check out the cast at www.toappomattox.com.

Of course we can look forward to the the Lincoln: Vampire Hunter movie too! The book is actually pretty entertaining as long as you don't take history to serious.

And let's not forget the Spielberg movie about Lincoln loosely based upon "Team of Rivals". Apparently Leim Nielson is out and Daniel Day-Lewis is playing Abe. I can see both actors doing a great job but we will need to wait.

Because the Yanks can't celebrate our defeat enough in a two-hour film they have graciously expanded it into an 8-part series?

"Waiter, more salt for these wounds, please."

I will watch though when it is released and I do hope they have a finished product as good as Band of Brothers or The Pacific.

There is also a new production titled "The Conspirator". The plot line centers around the prosecution of Mary Surratt as a conspirator in the assassination of Lincoln. It is intended to be historically accurate in every detail. Some decent actors are in the cast, and it is directed by Robert Redford. I found the dialogue to be somewhat stilted (it was written in 19th century English) but the whole of it was well done and fascinating. It is scheduled to open in April.

Thanks for this posting, Cadet Briggs! I had no idea that the production of To Appomattox even existed. I will look forward to watching this!
