General Elkin - well done Dave, <salute>

I shall be seeing ya all somewhere near Atlanta  Who in the hell is Garry Owen? Never heard that one yelled at me by any of my yankee opponents. I assume has something to do with drinking 8)

General McOmish,

You are correct, my pedestrian friend, the 'Garry Owen' was, and is a drinking song. It was, and is, the marching song for the 7th U.S. Cavalry and was a British marching (and drinking) song before that. Supposedly, Garry Owen is a town in Ireland.

Ahem:

Oh ye Sons of Bacchus be not dismayed,
It was for you that wine was made.
So come along each jovial Blade,
And join me in the Chorus:

Our hearts, so stout, have brought us fame,
For soon t'is known from whence we came!
Where ere we go, they dread the name,
of Garry Owen in Glory!

We'll forsake the Spa and drink Brown Ale,
and hit each reckoning on the nail!
No man for debt shall go to jail,
While he can Garry Owen Hail!

Our hearts, so stout, have brought us fame,
For soon t'is known from whence we came!
Where ere we go, they dread the name,
of Garry Owen in Glory!

I doubt there was a lot of this heard on the banks of the Greasy Grass (aka The Little Bighorn)

Why is this song not at the top of the charts :?: It has got my vote. I will have to do some research, but I have some inkling that this song may have come from out west in the Confederacy, where the art of drinking is taken most seriously . 8)

You are right General Custer and his team were a bit busy at the The Little Bighorn to do much singing

Many thanks to the General for his faith in me, and I plan on maitaining the solid performacne of the division.

Cam, though the song was fun, the 7th had a really bad day in June of 1876.

I look forward to battles in the future with the many luminaries of the South

I also would like to plan a joint battle with the members of 3 (2nd Cav) XVI Corp in the near future.

For a new recruit, I have a couple of openings.

BG Elkin
