Random Question:

What is the most pointless thing you know about the Civil War?

I realized today, writing an email about Gettysburg, that I can spell Krzyzanowski from memory. I am sure my brain has expelled some valuable piece of legitimate information in order to store the correct spelling of that. I can't remember how to find the circumference of a circle but I know how to spell Krzyzanowski. Sadly, I doubt my kids will ever need help spelling Krzyzanowski and will then look at me like a dope when I can't help them with their math homework.

Like I said, random question. Hopefully we get some equally random and amusing answers. :D

I know who's buried in Grant's tomb, and the name of the President on the Lincoln Penny....

My favorite Civil War trivia question is: With so many hundreds of thousands of bullets fired during the battle at Gettysburg, why don't any of the monuments have any bullet holes in them?

I can top that... I was touring Shiloh with an ex-girlfriend of mine back in 2004 when she commented, "What an odd place for such a large cemetery."

A civil war = a tautology. Just like army intelligence!

and: "No one can shoot me at this dist..."

and, Blake, it's "pies are squared"! :-)

"They couldn't hit an elephant at this dist..." General John Sedgwick (Slight variation)

"Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees."

You have the right of it, Ernie. I dips me lid in appreciation...

Your point is made well. Them miserable Rebs did snipe our best. Being human, sometimes they missed, too.

Speaking of pointless trivia I impressed a nurse by telling her that horse hair was boiled to make it softer for use on patients during the Civil War. They unknowingly discovered sterilization in the process.

Okay, maybe it wasnt completely pointless since I did get her phone number out of the whole thing! :D But I like to think I had more to do with that than the pointless trivia did.
