If you play HPS Atlanta, this should be an article of interest for you.

(Glad to see Meade got some response)

Dalton to Atlanta
Sherman vs. Johnston
May-June 1864

by Allen Parfitt

"One thing every Confederate in Dalton knew was the Bragg had to go"

Long but interesting tale

An excellent read and a good bashing of Joe Johnston. Now when Meade was bashed by Professor Guelzo in a recent post, he was ably defended by our General Rusty Hodgkiss of the AotS. Is there no one from the Southern Side to defend the slings and arrows against Gen. Joseph Johnston?

Alas, having a history degree can be bothersome at times

There are a lot of guys in this club with more than a little interest in the Civil War and this is the forum for their thoughts on various aspects of the conflict. I like to see these guys (whoever they are) demonstrate their acumen on battles, commanders, terrain, weapons and even ideology as long as it doesn't get out of hand. Our members have just as much to say as Professor Guelzo or Allen Parfitt.

I'm afraid the only defense of Joe is that he wasn't as bad as Bragg or as stupid as Hood. :D

Now that begs the question, which side had the worse generals? For all the bashing of Johnston, I have read he knew how to run an army, he just wasn't a "fighting man". But can the South match anyone up with Fremont or Butler and probably a host of others that will be mentioned?
BTW, Wikipedia has a list of all the generals with a photo! Maybe we could update some of our leader's pictures in the game. find it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Am ... als_(Union)
