American Civil War Game Club (ACWGC)

New York, NY – December 27, 2011 –AMC has announced the renewal of “Hell On Wheels” for a second season. The original series reigns as the second highest rated series on AMC, averaging 3.2 million viewers and 1.5 million Adults 25-54.* Season one’s finale is Sunday, January 15th at 10pm EST. “Hell On Wheels” is created and written by Joe and Tony Gayton (Faster/Uncommon Valor/Salton Sea/Bulletproof), who also serve as executive producers. John Shiban (“The X-Files,” “Breaking Bad”), Jeremy Gold, Endemol’s SVP of scripted programming and David Von Ancken, who also directed the pilot, serve as executive producers. The series is executive produced by Endemol USA with Entertainment One (eOne) serving as the studio. eOne’s Television CEO John Morayniss and SVP creative affairs Michael Rosenberg oversee production in partnership with co-producers Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes at Nomadic Pictures.

I think its pretty good too.

Any show following "The Walking Dead" will have higher ratings as a result. I am looking forward to the next season of Mad Men as well. I will have to catch up on Hell on Wheels.

TV TALK (Beware)
Good for AMC for reinventing itself! They are a lousy movie station but they make good TV shows. They used to show good movies commercial free but they stopped that years ago. Now TCM is the only real place to watch the classics. AMC had to do something or be obsolete. TVLand seems to be doing the same. Much to my annoyance! I miss the old shows they used to have on. The Game Show Network also reformatted. They did show the classic game shows of the past from the 50s to the 80s but now are relying more on reality TV shows. Shame on them. When you see the Kardashians on TVLand you know its time to weep. Encore Westerns is a great station as well and they seem to be sticking to their guns (get it?). The only show they need is Bonanza to make their lineup complete.

As for the AMC poll it is funny that when the fans vote that the list of the greatest westerns becomes 50% John Wayne movies! The Duke's fans are a loyal bunch!

No more than half of them would make my list, McCabe and Mrs. Miller ?????

Pretty tough to beat the sound track to "Good Bad and Ugly"

I was always amazed at how many men Clint Eastwood could kill in one movie so decided to count them in "Josey Wales" He killed so many in the first ten minutes that I lost count

I think Clints "Unforgiven" has the most introspection as to what it might have been like to actually shoot someone. As someone with a bit of experience in this area I really considered it thought provoking.

I'll dig up an even older movie (with sound) which I only know about (I am not that old) because it was based on a book by my father's favorite western author James Warner Bellah. "A Thunder of Drums" starring Richard Boone. The same story along with Bellah's 2nd Cavalry series published in the Saturday Evening Post (which is why they are almost impossible to find) made up the bases for Ford's triology: Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande. But "Thunder" is a much more gritty version than the one Wayne is in.
