Post subject: AGEOD's Pride of Nations
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:45 pm
Gentlemen,
Does anyone have any experience, thoughts or comments about the new AGEOD's Pride of Nations?
It has 2 DLC's for the American Civil War and the Spanish American War and wondered if it might be
sanctioned for the club for the ACW DLC. I was going to download the demo (which of course is only the basic game demo)
when I had the time. It seems to be in the same vein as Victoria II which I purchased from the Steam network, Pride of Nations
and the DLC's are also offered for purchase there.
Vicotria II you have to deal with with population management, economics and industry, spending and budgeting, government,
elections and policies, goods, markets and trade, technology and research, event and decision trees, diplomacy, building units,
land and naval combat, and from the product description they seem similar, turn based deep strategy games but not much in terms
of tactical combat. Forge of Freedom gives you the strategic aspect, but you also have the option for tactical battles. I have only
played the demo for AGEOD, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the limited time I spent with it, you maneuver and assign units
and commanders to armies, corps, divisions but the battles are auto-resolved and I miss the tactical aspect of fighting battles.

I'm really enjoying Pride of Nations but I don't think it is something that would be suitable for inclusion in the Club. If you want to get really immersed in the ACW then get AGEOD's American Civil War. That one is very immersive and difficult to master and is part of the club.

Gen Nelms,
Thankyou for your feedback. You are indeed right, I have bought Pride of Nations, the extra Civil War Campaign and Spanish American
War from Steam network ( I did not see these extras at the AGEOD site) but at $5 for both, well worth it, but the Civil War Campaign
is but 91 turns, the Spanish-American War 10, so it seems the real fun of Pride of Nations will be in playing the Grand Campaign, and would not focus enough on the Civil War to be included.
I played the AGEOD Civil War demo again and took your advice and am downloading the game, both great games in their own right,
especially at $20 each.
