Gentlemen,

It is my pleasure to present to you Lt. Robert Brooks, newly graduated from the Union Military Academy. Lt. Brooks has been posted to the the 7th Brigade, 1st Division, VIIIth Corps of the Army of the Shenandoah.

The first round is on me. A toast: To Lt. Brooks: May you enjoy the friendly competition, the intellectual stimulation, the lessons learned and taught, the battles be they won or lost; may you gain a greater appreciation of the American Civil War and the pivotal role it played and still plays in American life and culture; and most importantly, to the many new friends and colleagues that you will meet. Gentlemen, I say ye, Lt. Robert Brooks!

<SALUTE>

Yes, Lt. Robert Brooks and Lt. Kevin Koch(1/4/VI were both welcomed into the Army of the Shenandoah on July 26th. It is high time they were introduced to the Club-at-large. They are candidates for the Lieutenant's Cup for sure.

A very nice introduction, General Hartwig; one befitting a UMA Instructor and senior officer in the ACWGC Union Army!

To Lieutenants Brooks and Koch, both from whom, I suspect, we will be hearing of many future accomplishments, a sincere welcome to each!

You are both cautioned, however, not to engage in any celebratory drinking bouts with the Rebel general, McOmish! The last new Union officers to do so woke up the next day deprived of both their swords and boots! We understand he later sells these items to the black market women of New Orleans in return for their personal favors, a practice we have come to both deplore and applaud for its sheer audacity!
