I dont recall much of last night. Gen. McOmish mentioned a staff meeting on a nearby gunboat. My staff and I departed about 7 PM for the meeting. Somewhere along the way we met up with some staff officers from the Army of the Cumberland under a flag of truce. We all joined Gen. McOmish for a meeting to discuss an exchange of contraband war material. Soon other officers from the Army of Alabama and Army of the Tennessee joined the discussion. I remember someone than suggesting we have a drink...
The night then becomes a bit foggy.
All I know is that this morning the Provost Guard's from both sides surrounded our gunboat and demanded we return the livestock, the Mayor's hat, the ladies from the nearby Academy, and the Church Bells. Gen. McOmish refused to cooperate and he jumped overboard. When we heard a thud we knew something was wrong. Much to our surprise the gunboat is now firmly lodged in a farmer's field 2 miles from the River
Anyone with any information from last night please help us fill in the gaps. Gen. McOmish is also missing and was last seen "drowning" in the cotton fields nearby.
