Post subject:  HPS REPLACEMENTS IN CAMPAIGN

Gentlemen, my compliments, <salute>

At one time I read in the users manuel about the replacement of casualties in battle when playing a campaign. I remember that the replacements were figured on how many days there were between battles and there was a % rate given. For some reason I am unable to find that information now. Does anyone know or can direct me where to look? Also for example say a 300 man regiment suffers say 100 casualties and receive replacements which I assume would be raw recruits would the quality of the unit be lowered say from quality B to C. Thanking any help in advance.

I seem to recall 10%; 20% if the unit was wiped out. Don't know why this information is no longer readily available.

The replacements I think are intended to represent guys who missed the battle due to noncombat duty more than new recruits.

Your unit won't change it's morale rating, but if the next battle happens in close proximity to the one where you lost the men, there will be residual fatigue. Sometimes quite a bit of residual fatigue!

The replacement rate depends. I am not sure if a completely wiped out unit is handled differently but the amount varies from 10 to 50% depending on how long a time passes between scenarios. Artillery is a little different because it always comes back at at least one gun. Here's what I have in my notes for future War College article:

1-6 days: 10%
7-13 days: 20%
14-30 days: 30%
31-89 days: 40%
60+ days: 50%

Wow, General! That is the first time I have seen this info! Where can I find it in the documentation?

I don't think it is in the documentation. If I remember correctly someone asked HPS/Tiller and got a reply with these numbers.

Far as I can tell once a casualty stays a casualty. Whatever you end up with at the end of a scenario shows up in the next one.

Gentlemen,

Thanks to those that have suppled their information. The first HPS game that I purchased before joining the club was Campaign Chancellorsville. In the Users manuel when reading, there was a section which did explain the casualty replacement rate. I purchased that title back in 2009. I have gone back and looked and can no longer find the info. I am getting old, I know, but I just can not find it anymore. Not sure but maybe when upgrading to the new versions the information has been over written. As I stated I do remember that the casualty rate for replacements was a % and was based on the number of days between the battle in which you suffered the casualty and when the next battle in the campaign started. Gen. Whiteheads info. is close to what I remember although I do not remember the amount of days or the exact % rate for them. Again thanks to all who responded
