That's great! I love Pat's. Killed a lot of brain cells there.

Begging the General's pardon, but what's with the gator and that other animal? :?:

Suh, my compliments!

Nicodemus appeared shortly after my graduation from VMI and was a fixture on the academy grounds while I was part of the cadre. You do know there are gators in Louisiana, don't you

I decided he was a handsome enough brute to include on the colors when I assumed command of 2nd "Gator Alley" Division. Brigadier General Reneau, the current commander of Gator Alley, decided to retain the nickname and Nicodemus' battle flag for the division and as the corps commander I decided to include some part of each division's colors on the corps banner.

As for the elephant, he still hasn't a name that I'm aware of. Major General Beyersdorf assumed command of 4th "Crimson Tide" Division, and when I designed his division colors I threw in the elephant which he approved of.

Be warned, when facing II Corps, Army of the Mississippi, something will either jump up and grab you out of nowhere or you'll just get stomped on

Highest regards,

Gen'l Hebert suh {salute}

On my way back to Baton Rouge from The Big Easy yesterday my daughter and I passed a dead alligator on I-10. As they say, only in Louisiana. Well and Florida and maybe Mississippi, likely Georgia and Alabama and possibably South Carolina....

VMI - awesome.

Warmest personal regards to you and Nicodemus, the other animal still hurts me a little

Suh, my compliments! By VMI, I meant the Vicksburg Military Institute lol.

As for the Virginia Military Institute, I do have the honor of having Brigadier General Chris Newcomb as a brigade commander in Gator Alley. I was his division commander for a couple of years, and now serve as his corps commander. He graduated last year and is now a new Army 2nd Lieutenant. I had the honor of meeting him last year when he took a tour of the country after graduating from VMI, and he's an awesome young man!

God bless him and those who serve!

I hadn't realized Newcomb had graduated. Time flies. Where is he stationed?

Sir, If I may suggest some famous names for elephants:
Dumbo- if it was good enough for Walt Disney, it is good enough for the CSA
Surus - the most famous war elephant of Hannibal
Jumbo - of P.T. Barnum fame
Lin-Wang - served with the Japanese Army in the Sino-Japanese War(1937-1945) and at 86 is still alive!
Murderous Mary- killed her trainer and was executed by hanging in 1916
Suleiman- presented to Maximilian II by John of Portugal in 1551
Tusko- billed as the meanest elephant
Tyke- killed her trainer and gored her groom , then ran amok in hawaii before police killed her with 86 shots
Then there are Babar, Elmer, Horton, and many many more.
You must give your pachyderm a name!

I like Mary. Any elephant that kills morons who get beneath their feet is okay in my book.

General Ringbloom <salute>

Suh, my compliments!

I appreciate the suggestions provided, although I believe that Dumbo won't be one considered. The truth is that while we arranged his passage through the Yankee blockade, he is with his commander in the 4th Division, II Corps, Army of the Mississippi.

General Beyersdorf designated his division the "Crimson Tide", which I suspect may have links to the University of Alabama. As a fan of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and LSU, I have no idea what (if any) name they may have for their mascot.

I will be sure to contact General Beyersdorf and encourage to provide a name, as I know that you Yanks seem to be fretting over the matter.

Highest regards,

I thought it was a truly lousy survey. There were several words that simply had no answer that I would have gone along with. For instance, "oil" I don't know anybody who uses any of those pronunciations???? Basicly the test was pretty insulting to Southerners, by assuming that we cannot speak proper English. There was another of these tests posted on here some years back that was a far better test.

They do promote stereotypical "southern" phrases. I have seen more insulting tests than that though. Next time your at a grocery store take the quiz in Cosmo. You will learn all kinds of things about your performance in bed you never wanted to know

Sorry Blake, I'm a four time Gold medalist at the Stockholm Sex Olympics!!! I wrote most of that survey in Cosmos! (That's my story and I'm sticking to it......).

As for my earlier critique, I just flat found this survey inaccurate these days....Most of those "Stereotypical Southern" phases are a thing of the past......Maybe 60 years ago, it would have been better.....

One big regional difference is, oddly, grocery stores. In Chicago we had Jewel-Osco and Dominick's. In Pennsylvania it was Giant and Weis. In Tennessee its Kroger and Pulix. In Wisconsin it was Copps Grocery Stores.
