Down here, Kroger and Walmart are big, but the state is defended from these invaders by the "Hubert E Butts" chain of grocery stores....Truly wonderful stores!

Gentlemen <salute>

My compliments! The question of the name of the elephant has been resolved, since it seemed to be a matter of concern to the Yanks.

Brigadier General Beyersdorf replied to my rider with word that the beast is named "Pinky", more formally "Pinky II". It seems that the original Pinky was gunned down by Yanks from Ohio, with 80+ shots required to take the poor beast down.

Nicodemus and I welcome Pinky to II Corps with honors. We are sure that there may be all manner of comments from the Yankee lines, however "Crimson Tide" will no doubt be stronger for it.

Are you confusing Pinky with Tyke, who ran amok in Hawaii and was gunned down with 86 shots? Seems quite a coincidence that it would take the same number for different elephants unless they were using the same calibre guns and hit the same areas. wierd.

General Ringbloom <salute>

Suh, my compliments!

I can only relay that information provided by General Beyersdorf. Until now I have not kept records of elephants killed, how they were killed, or how many rounds were required to accomplish the deed.

Highest regards,

Gentlemen, Gentlemen, Gentelmen (and Yankees),

Surely you are aware that this information is easily obtainable simply by referencing Dyer's Compendium or Fox's Regimental Losses. Both sources have wonderfully detailed sections on "The Elephants Of The Civil War.....No need for you to do painstaking research on this.

Yes, I see now. Its listed right after "Camels of the Civil War" and preceeding that was "Alligators of the Civil War". How could I miss that?

The section on Scandinavian Wonder Llammas in the civil war was by far and away, with utterly no competition the most interesting part of the Record! Why without those Union Wonder Llammas miraculously defeating the Confederate Attack Rabbits in the 1864 Overland Campaign Grant would have been completely disgraced......Those were some bad ass rabbits!
