I've encountered a number of naval ranks with which I was not familiar and thus thought that I needed to expand my knowledge in that arena. Sorry, but for some reason I couldn't find anything on air force ranks.  What about 'The Union Army Balloon Corps'?  Now we'll have no wisecracks from you southern boys.  It was headed by a "Chief Aeronaut" and served the North from October 1861 until the summer of 1863.

That's nothing special. We have been watching the Yanks fly for years. It's gotten so that when we see a Union General we have to ask him to turn around so we can recognize him.
