Stones River is the first battlefield I have seen starting to place iron shadow cutouts of soldiers and cannon on the field. My opinion on them is undecided. I am sure kids will love them and they do at least make for some great photo ops

Yep that's my bald little head sticking up there in the Slaughter Pen.

When I was last at Stones River Battlefield, they did have some artifacts at the Slaughter Pen. They had some dismantled cannons, with caissons broken. Perhaps the silhouettes are to add more "flavor" to the experience.

Obviously, they fooled you!

They have actually removed the disassembled cannon this year. It also seems they are beginning to clear a lot of the thick underbrush around the Slaughter Pen in an attempt (perhaps?) to make the line of sight from the Pen greater than twelve feet. They also added about a half dozen cannon around the battlefield (which about doubles their total number of guns on display). Overall I believe Stones River has made some huge changes in the past two years and are likely getting ready to wrap up all the renovation by the anniversary this month. Kudos to them for the facelift!

Mark Davis and I visited last week and we could still see the path through the fields where the tornado hit back in 2008. Otherwise the battlefield is in great shape!

The old busted up guns used to lay here but were replaced by this new sign (the old sign was finally removed as well after suffering from many years of neglect and a bit of vandalism by Yankee's no doubt  ).

I am glad they are working on the site. It is a very good battlefield to visit.

Holy cow! After all this time... I've finally figured out the significance between Blake & Jack Benny!

It's the receding hairline!

Not to worry Blake... I thought I'd be right there with you by the young age of 30... but somehow I have managed to avoid it... though the hair has thinned quite a bit since my youth!

Receding hairline? Nonsense. It's merely hibernating.
