Post subject:  Smaller batteries vs larger ones

I am experiencing something that is new to me and I have played these games a long time. I am playing an Antietam battle 062 in which my opponent has pulled back and is defending a perimeter very similar to Lee's actual positions. My guns are being killed off at rate of 4 to 1 and while there are some examples where he has a height advantage it is not uniform while the kill rate is. The only difference is my batteries are large 4 and 6 guns while his are mostly 2 guns. He is taking a lot more shots and that is the only reason I can come up with for this huge discrepancy. It had been my previous understanding that the larger batteries conferred an advantage to the Union but that is not the case in this battle. I have to admit I have not kept on top of the latest rule changes in the updates. I looked in the user guide but did see anything on artillery calculations. Have I missed something? :(
