 Post subject: Members Defeat Proposal
PostPosted: Fri Feb 15, 2013 5:37 pm
Gentlemen of the ACWGC,

Member voting on rule 3.3.1.2.e has concluded. The proposal, as submitted, read:

"All cabinet votes dealing with proposals for rules changes be made public to the membership of the ACWGC, with each cabinet member and their vote posted in a locked thread along with the proposal voted on."

23 members cast votes, with the majority voting to reject the proposal:
Yea: 10 votes
Nay: 13 votes

Or so reads the Cabinet Post in case you missed it.

Interestingly this is the first time the Club has voted down a proposal put forth by the Cabinet since we went to the online voting system.

Disturbing is we only had 23 to vote....

folks we are headed in the wrong direction...
is it that we have members who dont care..
is it that our members in leadership roles not communicating with their officers...

might need to think how to get our folks more engaged...

I think Pierre was in a bad spot. I believe he may have been torn between sending out a Club-wide email about the vote or letting word spread via the forums. That's a rough choice. On one hand you potentially upset people who dont want politics emailed to them. On the other you risk having nobody show up.

This may be a good thing to address as a Club. Whether the President/CoAs/Cabinet Members should distribute voting notifications directly to email boxes in an impartial and informative way.

Back when I was President I tried to use the chain of command to get the word out about votes a few times. Suffice to say that as President I'd send the word out to the two CoAs. Somewhere between the CoA and my role as BC in the AotM the message was lost because I never received a single message from anyone about the votes. After that I just emailed everyone directly. Whether or not they appreciated this or it bugged them I never learned (no feedback). But we did seem to get higher turnouts.

Gentlemen <salute>

Communication, bottom line. I believe a majority of our members do not visit the site often, and those that do for the opponent finder. This might make an interesting study if anyone decided to do so.

In any case, the 23 members that voted have decided

Highest regards,

Neal

I concur,,,BLUF,,,,the vote is the vote...have no qualms with that...
my concern...as we have sorta of spoke about it before...
we as a core group need to comunicate with our folks up and down the chain..
let people know there is more to this club than just winning ....
if not we are gonna find ourselves to a very few....

sirs,

bear with me here,,first off i cant spell, so dont laugh,,,i dont think its that the members dont care, i think most of us care for the club very much. the problem as i see it,and i will use myself as an example is that most of us are strapped for time,,,as for me i love to play the games and i love to read the material on the site, but most of the time i do not have time for both. the club works and the club is a wonderful thing. as for the elected members thanks for all you do.
