Check and see if the Bridge has taken damage and can no longer allow crossing. Seems like what little memory I have left says that that it is sometimes possible to get on the bridge after its reduced but it stops you from leaving. But the message seems to indicate the road is blocked by something instead. I've seen it before but can't remember the cause.

Also thought of another thing to check because I got caught on it. If you have an officer with you and he is mounted he is treated like cavalry and you might get the message for that. Try dismounting if you do and see if the unit will cross.
