Greetings,

I have the honor to report on the conclusion of the fabulously successful Deep South Beer and Oyster Raid conducted by elements of V Corps, Army of the Potomac undertaken last evening. Under the tactical command of the ever resourceful Col. Dave Stotsenburgh, and semi-ably assisted by Maj. Gen. Deano Martin, our ever diligent and hard working troops report the successful capture of some five and a half dozen Rebel bivalve mollusks. Somewhat regrettably there was also significant collateral damage to a local institution known as the Abita Brewery.

All the raiders are safely back in their bivouac, recovering from the extreme exertion of this most successful if somewhat excessive exercise in power projection. You will be kept informed regarding future Deep South B & O Raids should you wish to partake in this most convivial of ACWGC attacks.

I believe this is a tradition started by Ben Grierson in 1863. It seems that in the modern version, even if you lose, you win!

deano is being very coy, he more than held up his end and definitely has the thirst of a corps commander :mrgreen:
i belive we have put a major dent in the reb war effort and the beer and oyster supply has been severely depleted in the baton rouge area of operations!
we had a very fine time and great conversation, i couldn't match deano beer for beer, he prefers the manly 32 oz mugs while myself as a division commander stuck to 12 oz mugs. i guess rank does have it's priviliges. :mrgreen:
warning to the rebs..there will be further raids in the future! :mrgreen:

I had to take a second look at this thread title. I thought you went on a BO raid and the Rebels are usually good enough to just march up and give me a whiff of all that I could possibly want.

Any and all all welcome next time, could be as early as January. Also Deano forgot to mention we put a dent in the gumbo supply :mrgreen:
I think next time we will plant a Fifth corps flag outside of Mike Andersons!

I am reminded of Thurber's piece "If Grant had been drunk at Appomattox" which is a part of a play, "Thurber Carnival."
I played Grant when we did it at the Warren Struthers Theater. Funny.
If Stots had been drunk at Gettysburg. Well, we are losing anyway....
Maybe some alcohol inspiration is just what we need!

John,
my great,great grandfather could have been drunk during the battle, He was in Tiltons brigade, a known drunkard. Also the 118th Pa was involved in the infamous "Mud March" brawl, which happened after the whiskey ration was doled out. So you are probably right! :mrgreen:

They called the 118th the "Corn Exchange Regiment" and I suspect the corn was of the distilled variety.
