I have been playing some BG modded scenarios and I had a question about the hex maximums. It states in the NF rules that the maximum size of a unit is 400, but the max in a hex is 600. The problem has been that the majority of the .pdt files I download with the custom scenarios limit the hexes to 400, and I have to go change that to the 600 max. I just want confirmation that the hex max is indeed 600.
Kudos to whoever placed all the custom scenarios in the Cartography Office, there's a great collection there, and whoever created and modded all the scenarios. Many thanks.
Joe

The maximum number of men who could occupy a given hex has been a point of discussion at the MDT for years. The max indicated in a particular PDT is only the author's view of what he feels the maximum should be. It must be at least as great as the size of the largest unit in the game. Most PDTs use 1,000. I don't know if the game engine will allow anything greater than this figure.

Hi Joe! (or Grrrrr! you Rebel scoundrel) :)

I did a quick test in the BG series and the JT Overland and there is really no restriction on how many men are in a unit or how many men are limited to a hex. It's purely setup in the .pdt file which can be modified to nearly any number. I tested a unit with 9,000 men and a limit of 20,000 per hex. There were no problems in any of the games (BG, HPS or JT).

Similar to my ACWS scenario, the units are full divisions with a maximum of 10,000 men and a hex limitation of a Corp (30,000) per hex. During play test I haven't seen any errors or issues resulting from battle testing.

I would say the number of men per unit or hex is purely limited to the scale of the battle and the settings in the .pdt file. It's truly wide open to interpretation of the scenario designer/historians. ;o)

See ya on the battlefield!!
