I was flipping through the TV channels and happened upon a PBS Civil War documentary that I was impressed with, The Civil War: The Untold Story. It focuses on the Western Theater in 5 one hour long episodes. High production values, Large accurate reenactment scenes, good maps, etc. Unfortunately I didnt find it until mid way through the 4th episode, so I only have a snippet on DVR, but it was very good. Has anyone seen this? Look it up if you haven't.

I'd like to see that. It's always about Gettysburg and the only thing that's been produced in my lifetime about the western theatre were "Gone with the Wind" and a very bad movie about Shiloh about 50 years ago. I've been waiting all my life for a decent movie on Shiloh and one on Chickamauga and/or Franklin.

The documentaries produced by Ken Burns and others like them are alright, but they don't capture the heart and emotion.

One more that would make a good Hollywood production is the Battle of Belmont, Mo. Very early war and if you read up on it, it's fascinating. Nobody knew what they were doing.

I set my DVR to catch it this time around and have watched the first two (taking us through Shiloh). Really well done, lots of reenactments, just good throughout. I may wind up buying it just to encourage them to do more of the same...
