Why would anyone want to play these games on a porthole-view, tiny tablet display? Scrollfest?

I have purchased the six earlier titles in the CWB series (for Android), and just yesterday the latest release, CWB: Corinth. (I also picked up MC: Mideast '67, also for Android.)

Much to my surprise, these games shine on mobile.

...

You definitely need a stylus pen, though. Good luck relying on your fat fingers. And, this annoyance: From time to time, you select a hex, a stack, or a menu item (such as Highlight Org), and ... nothing happens. No matter how long you press. In such circumstances, one has to select some other hex (to clear the internal command processing routines?), then retry. At other times, the touch controls are glitchy or slow to take effect. These are aggravating, could be Android glitches (and might get better with newer, faster tablets and/or newer Android versions), might be actual coding bugs, but anyway happen seldom enough so as not to be showstoppers.

And now choke a bit on my words.

The experience is beginning to tarnish, the games no longer shine so much as before.

The more I play CWB Mobile, the more frustrated I am by the unresponsiveness of the controls. Too often, menu buttons take way too long to activate. Or say I press on a unit in order to move it, or put it in fire mode. I press ... and press ... and wait ... and seconds later the move indicator (red circle) finally appears. Or I have pressed slightly too long, so the fire (red crosshairs) indicator appears, when -- dang it! -- I want the move indicator instead. Or I try to select a unit, but the controls are stuck in scroll mode, so rather than getting the desired move or fire indicator the map scrolls around slightly while I wait.

Moving units is slow. I have never yet got the double tap column movement feature to work.

I have a B&N Nook HD+, an Android tablet, purchased around Christmas of 2013. Not an IPad, and not an old device by any means. If my tablet is too underpowered to run these games, I think that reflects more poorly on the games, not on my tablet, which otherwise serves me well enough. These might be Android issues. Maybe when I trade up to a newer, faster, more powerful tablet (an Android tablet for sure, I won't buy Apple; and a Windows tablet? never!) -- maybe that will fix what may be performance problems.

Or maybe JTS needs to tighten up and optimize the game control coding?

Whatever, I am growing increasingly frustrated with this to the point where I might set this aside and stop playing the games for now.

Oh, and the more I play, the more I miss phase-based play. It sucks not to be able to play the game with that preferred option.

Anyway, FWIW, that's my latest take on these games. Caveat emptor.

I have been playing these for a few weeks now with a Quad Core processor Samsung Tab 4 8" Andorid 4.4. I have no lag or responsive issues whatsoever. It might be 4.4 and or the processor. Do you have settings on your Tablet which control processing speed and display for power saving? If you do you might want to set it to the fastest setting for these applications. This might solve some of the lag issues. I have mine set to fastest processing and best display. Again I have no response issues. It's usually my own 60 year old response thats lacking. :)

As with a PC the more powerful it is the more interesting is the experience.

You do need to get used to it as the controls are different. The only issue I have is the column road movement. Need just the right amount of double clicking to get it.

By the way there are Android PC emulators out there that you can install to play these games or try out apps before you put them on your Android. I think it's 4.2. It's a hoot playing on a 27" screen. The one I use is Bluestacks which works well with mouse and KBD controls but you need to get the hang of it.

I play them on an IPAD, with no lag issues or problems.

The problem seems to be my tablet, and possibly Android version, therefore. (Maybe I can ameliorate the problem by installing CyanogenMod, although that would break my warranty.)

A word of caution then: Unless you have a recent, higher-end tablet, you might find the current versions of CWB Mobile frustrating. Bummer.

They play quite well on my Droid phone. Column movement can be a bit tricky at first, but can be mastered with a bit of practice. The only issue I run into is my wife will call me while I am in the middle of an assault!

It's the Android version. My Nook HD+ runs a very much outdated Android 4.0.2 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

As an experiment, I tried installing and running CWB Chancellorsville on my older Nook Tablet, running Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean) -- by way of CyanogenMod, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CyanogenMod. (The Nook Tablet originally came with Android 4.0.? also.)

The difference was like night and day! CWB Mobile runs quite fast on the later Android version, no lags, no hiccups, no problem. Who'd have thunk it?

I'll be downloading and installing CyanogenMod (either Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), or Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)) on my Nook HD+ ASAP! (To heck with the warranty.)
