OFFICERS OF THE ACWGC,
ATTENTION TO PARADE!

Lieutenant General Ian Miller has recently announced his retirement from the ACWGC Union Army, having served, according to the available DoR records, since December of 2001.

Ian was first assigned as an officer of the Union Army of the Ohio, where he very quickly found himself in charge of a division, and then later as the commander of the IX Corps. He served steadily in that role from February of 2003 until May of 2005, after which he enjoyed the simple role of a brigade commander. In this part of his career he became an avid and successful player of the HPS Gettysburg games, and later made something of a name for himself in what was called the Hill Challenge.

Upon the deactivation of the AotO and the consolidation of its remaining officers into the Union Army of the Tennessee in the last months of 2009, Lt. Gen. Miller had become inactive due to his changing personal schedule. But by June of 2010 he had returned to the active ranks as the 4th Brigade commander in the 3rd (1st Cavalry) Division, XV Corps, AotT. In August of 2012 Ian assumed command of the 3rd (2nd Cavalry) Division, XVI Corps, AotT and performed excellent service in that role until November of 2014. On that date he announced his intention to step down from command and applied for a Leave of Absence to begin in January of this year. Upon the expiration of his Leave on July 1st, Ian announced his retirement from the club, having actively served close to 12 years as an officer in the ACWGC.

During those 12 years he managed to accumulate a 21-11-21-4-4 combat game record and volunteered much of his time as an Instructor at the Union Military Academy. In his correspondence and reports he exhibited a lively sense of role play and a very decided complaint against opponents who disappeared from their games. To those who knew him he was an excellent acquaintance and always a gentleman.

The occasion of the retirement of a senior General Rank officer in good standing is always attended with regret and sadness. But it is also attended with honor and pride in the service rendered to the club and Military Group in which that officer served. Lieutenant General Ian Miller's past awards can be viewed within the AotO/AotT Retirement page found at http://www.unioneaglesonline.com/AotT-Retired.htm, and among them you will find the UA's highest service award, the Defender of the Union medal and ribbon. But such an officer cannot be allowed to leave without at least some additional tribute to his long tenure. So it is with abiding respect that he is presented here with his second Exemplary Service Order medal and ribbon, and given the lasting well wishes of his peers.

OFFICERS OF THE ACWGC,
Present, ARMS!
Order, ARMS!
Parade, DISMISSED!

Both Northern and Southern officers are invited to partake of the array of beverages (some just recently liberated from a CSA supply train) now provided here by the AotT's Old Abe Tavern & Parade Ground, and wish General Miller a fond farewell!

By order of General Derald Riggs, Commander ACWGC Union Army.

Suh, my compliments!

I've seen your name in reports but never faced you on the field of battle. Thank you for your support of the ACWGC.
