Just a reminder guys.....if you know of a member who has passed on, the ACWGC Memorial Page is a place we can list them to honor our members who have passed on. No doubt as the years go on, the friends we make here will pass on too and this is a way that we all can remember & honor them.

The page is: http://www.wargame.ch/wc/acw/sub/vmi/Ao ... morial.htm

You can post additions here or email them to me: eric2900@aol.com or sludwig2900@gmail.com

I also reminded Scott that Douglas Strickler, designer of Campaign Gettysburg and a member of the club, passed away earlier this year. I sent Scott a link to his online obituary article.

You've got to be kidding, Bill! Doug Strickler, the designer of Campaign Gettysburg, gone? I found the obituary which indicated that Doug was a 5th Judicial Circuit Public Defender for South Carolina. The guy was both brilliant and prolific. I was able to privately question him over his deep work with Campaign Gettysburg a few years ago and I intend to publish some of his answers in our forum.

Yes, sad to say but Doug is no longer with us.

Others from John Tiller Software design team that passed away over the last few years include:

Greg "Mo" Morgan
Dave "Blackie" Blackburn

Both were great guys. Both will be sorely missed.

Gentlemen of the ACWGC:

John Tiller himself was never a member of our club (that I know of), but I thought it appropriate that we honor him here.

Wow! What a punch in the gut!

Thanks for passing this on, Dave! I had no idea.

I owe John BIG TIME for all the pleasure I have gotten from the games he created over 25+ years. He will be missed.

I obviously never met Mr Tiller, but he has been a part of my life for 25 years with his games, simply the best tactical games on the computer market. I have made many friends around the world through them.

RIP

Without John Tiller there probably would not be an ACWGC as we know it.
He definitely deserves to be remembered.

Truly sorry to hear of this. None of this club would exist and for as long as it has without the games and the company & staff he led. Our hobby and the wider world are better for the games he gave us and the friendships we've formed are a benefit of that. I'm very appreciative of all he's done.

My sincerest condolences to his wife & family and to all those who work or have worked with him over the years. He'll certainly be honored & remembered for a longtime to come.

Sadly, Chet Guiles is at end of life. If you care to post support for his family you can do so on his Facebook page. From the post yesterday it's not clear if Chet is able to acknowledge messages sent & read to him though. https://www.facebook.com/chet.guiles

I remember John Tiller from our "ComCons" in Kansas City and Mechanicsville. I got to chat with hin several times at both. I (and we) all owe him a world of gratitude!

Jim,

I have to agree with your closing sentence, if it were not for John Tiller, his legacy and indeed WDS we would not be doing and enjoying that which we do today. A world of gratitude probably does not entirely do it justice, but we, who derive so much pleasure from what John created and initiated understand. Well said Sir,

<salute>

It looks like this is the appropriate page but perhaps someone could transfer if I've got it wrong!

It is with very great regret that I inform you of the passing of Major General George Denney of the Army of the Potomac, through cancer. George and I have battled for nearly fifty years, first across the board and then he persuaded me to try this new fangled thing, the computer game. He introduced me to the club and we have played hundreds of games. A Navy vet from the Vietnam War, his play style was the embodiment of David Farragut's dictum: Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! We visited the Gettysburg battlefield several times and it was a rare year in which he did not return there. I know he visited many of the other battlefields as well, particularly in the East. He was an honourable and gallant opponent and a true friend.

Salute!
