Fellow Officers of the ACWGC i could use some help.
in 2 different battles i have had mounted cav units that i moved 1 hex at a time that did not spot enemy units 2 hexes away and i ended up continuing to move adjacent to the unit i did not see only to be blasted into oblivion by the enemy unit.
in version 2.0 and with that optional rule turned on i thought i was supposed to spot 2 hexes away with mounted cav.
is this a bug or is there some condition that there are exception to this rule?

When moving cavalry using the Cavalry skirmisher option, cavalry can "see" two hexes forward. However, it is only 100% effective through the center facing hexside. The other frontal hexsides to the left and right are apparently based on a die roll of some kind. This can lead to running into enemy who are slightly off your path.

Favorite tactic of mine. Put a regiment in line on a hex adjacent to a road through the woods. Cavalry moving using the road will always face down the road and not see the big infantry regiment waiting for them until they crash into them.

Counter tactic. Whenever moving cavalry into an area you suspect enemy in hiding particularly at turns in roads, stop and change facing toward the area you suspect may have enemy so you are facing that way. That will trigger the skirmisher sighting rule.

ok thanks. sure would have been nice for the HPS people to mention that instead just saying it spots 2 hexes away.

Another thing I have noticed is that skirmishers can't see across creeks. Something else to be wary of when you are scouting with your cavalry.

Does that count for the Mounted Cavalry Skirmishers Optional Rule too?
It sounds reasonable that skirmishers can't spot beyond the creek, if the unit can't cross why should the skirmishers, but question is if the skirmishers work when there is some kind of crossing like a bridge or ford.

The skirmishers seem to work the same for cavalry or infantry. And they can see across bridges. Haven't checked fords, but they should be
able to see across them as well.
