I just finished the novel "The Black Flower" by Howard Bahr published in 1960. The action is centered around the Battle of Franklin, TN in November 1864. Its a very good "inside your head" account of men facing battle. I won't give away the plot but there is a some romance mixed with the tragedy of Hood's decision to launch an all out frontal assault against the Union defensive works.

A good read.

I agree. A good read . . . although some might find the conclusion a little less than fulfilling.
