Hey all, I'll be in Gettysburg this upcoming weekend and have access Saturday morning to the most secluded/least visited part of the entire battlefield, Neill Ave.

For those not familiar, Neill Ave is where Neill's Union brigade was on July 3rd on the extreme right of the Union army, East of Culp's Hill just on the other side of Rock Creek. This area is nearly completely surrounded by private property and is basically pristine to the time the monuments were laid down in apx 1890. If anyone has never seen Neill Ave and is interested in going please email me at soccercw@gmail.com. I can really only take on one or two more people as my agreement with the land owner was to not bring "a crowd".

After that I'll be giving my group of friends a themed tour which I'm calling Salient Saturday. We'll be visiting and I'll be speaking about actions at 4 Union salients that all get crushed by attacking Confederate forces : Barlow's Division at Blocher's Knoll, Paul's Brigade on Oak Ridge/Hill, The Peach Orchard, and Ames' brigade on Cemetery Hill (which is newly cleared of an obstructive home!).

If the area is so exclusive, maybe you could take some pictures?

The lane itself is owned and kept by the national park service. Here's a good article to see some pictures:

I'd sure like to attend this meeting and lecture, but I'm getting ready for a trip. Maybe the next time. Thanks Mike.

I plan on visiting the lost avenue in Gettysburg sometime soon as well (I only live about 30 min away). How long of a walk was it from where you parked? Were you able to find all of the monuments?

I have been trying to visit the more obscure monuments every time I get to the park. Spent one winter day taking pictures of all of the different artillery types. How the rebs ended up with a Austrian howitzer must be interesting story. Much more urgency now as we plan to return to south of the Mason-Dixon line in the coming months.

Huzzah!

"24-pounder Howitzer of Austrian manufacture imported by the Confederacy. Its tube was shorter and lighter than Federal 24-pounder Howitzers."

Picture is shown.
