You'd think that after 14 years, nearly 900 posts and 7 designed games, I would be at least a Major General by now!

Ranks above Brig. General are only given to club members who take on admin duties per club rule section 4.1.
i) Major General - 450 points and Division Command or higher (Cabinet approval required).
j)Lieutenant General - 600 points and Corps Commander Chief of Staff to CoA or Chief of Staff to AC or TC or higher (Cabinet approval required).
k) General - 800 points and Army Command or Academy or War College Commandant or higher (Cabinet approval required).

The current club rules are certainly specific in regard to promotion into the 2-3-4 star ranks, but I've long felt that alternate pathways could be provided based upon both game development and/or OBD Point totals. And in this regard brevet ranks come to mind as a way of making clear distinction between the admin pathway and all others. Perhaps the Cabinet should entertain open discussions on this at some point in the future.

It just doesn't sit right to have a game designer, especially one such as Rich, walking around for so long with only one star! Without all of the games he has designed there might not be any officer ranks at all!

Brevet ranks were done away with years ago because they were a lot to have to manage. But as soon as I get a free moment I will email you Rich, as there are options within the CSA to talk about. 8)

I have no clue about the actual way these rules were formed but seems obvious that higher ranks are there for people who do their share to keep the club running.
Now designing so many games is obviously also a contribution to keeping the club running. i hope there is a way found to allow Rich to be promoted.

I may be one of the last Union officers to receive a Brevet Rank. Back in Feb. 2001 I was a fairly new Brigadier General and commanded 3/XIX in the AotS. I was asked to form the VIII Corps by the AotS CO and when I accepted he had me brevetted to Major General. Brevets were often used back then when an officer did not have the correct rank but was willing to fill a command slot.

Sirs,

My apologies, I wasn't intending to stir things up. I'm perfectly content with my single star, which is considerably more than that which I ended my naval career. LOL!

You humble and most obedient servant.

Seems I was a Brig. Gen. long ago but when HQ found that out they panicked and took it away. Oh wait, when I found out I had made that rank I ran away! ROFL

Once I clear some of my schedule I may sign up for a command in the Union army. I understand they are looking for a commander for the Union army latrine digging detail ..... <BIG WINK>
