In general, I think at least 80% like EFOW. But some have concerns about it being historical. Let me reply with a reply I recently sent by email:

I believe the EFOW is very historical and good “as is.” The map allows you to read the terrain as if you were holding a real map. EFOW simply eliminates the computer from doing the work for you. There is nothing secretive. If a player can read a map, then that is all that is needed. For example, you know you can’t see through a hill, correct? You know that you can’t see through woods when standing at the same elevation, correct? So how is EFOW disallowing a player from knowing what a hex can see? In truth, all EFOW does is limit knowledge of the enemies strength, and forces players to either correctly read a contour map, and or, send a unit to have a look.

Without a doubt a very good improvement, hopefully we see more in the area of FoW.
Not sure where it was but there was a discussion about the viewing distance and the fact that one can see details like 5XX soldiers on many kilometers, if that gets improved too I wouldn't mind at all.

I cannot wait for the EFOW option to be updated to all the rest of the ACW Campaign series. It will revitalize everything!

I agree with all the above. But I appreciate that it is an option so that those who don't like it don't have to use it.
