We had the chance last weekend while traveling to stop by the grave of Major General George Stoneman, known for his brief command of the AotP's Cavalry Corps under Hooker at Chancellorsville but also well known for his 1864 & '65 raids out in the Western Theater. He was also the 15th Governor of California after the war.

Born in Busti, New York on Chautauqua Lake, within Chautauqua County in Western New York. He died in Buffalo (about two hours north of Busti) and is buried in Bentley Cemetery which is in Lakewood, NY, also on Chautauqua Lake not far from Busti.

Bentley Cemetery is right next to NY Route 394 which runs along the southern end of Chautauqua Lake from Jamestown, NY. Lakewood is about 5-10 minutes from Jamestown. Also if you happen to be in Jamestown, it is the birthplace & childhood town of Lucille Ball. There is a great museum there for her, Desi Arnaz, their lives, careers and also a lot about "I Love Lucy" of course. We didn't realize it at the time but her ashed are buried in Lake View Cemetery which is in Jamestown.
