I've been thinking about this for a few days, mainly because I remembered one of my weirdest happenings in the ACW games. Years ago - when I was a Reb - I was marching a column down a road that was over the river and through the woods and just a long darn way from any Yankees. But one of those long range batteries took a pot shot as we were walking and killed 1 guy.

And A.P. Hill!

For months I wouldn't willingly move a leader with a unit in column...

Just curious what other stories there are out there!

Yes, that's highly unusual. AP just had bad luck.

I always enjoy when an opponent attacks me with their men facing the wrong way. You'd think they'd notice that.

There are two, simple explanations for why the Yankees do that, General.

1.) They have been trained in the US Military Academy that turning their backs to the enemy renders them invisible.

2.) It places them in a much better position to run away as they can travel much faster when pre-positioned to face the natural direction in which they wish to go.

Twice in the 20+ years I have played these games, I have had officers simply disappear from the board. It is an obvious, obscure program bug which would probably be difficult to find even if someone were looking, which I'm sure they are not. The first time was a Gettysburg battle in which Reynolds and Wadsworth were stacked at night behind the Union line. One turn they were there, the next turn not to be found. Neither showed as an officer casualty. Had they seen enough after Day 1 which sent them back to a Baltimore bar? One will never know. The second incident occurred in a different Gettysburg scenario. Barlow simply disappeared from the map. He was replaced by Ames, but Ames still held his brigade command. Barlow was far removed from any Rebels, but he was also far removed from the board. No cause. Is this an insidious Confederate plot enabled in the game engine?
