Some great news rather hot off the press, but Wargame Design Studio (WDS) has purchased the full JTS game catalogue with the intention to continue to publish and enhance the complete range of games. They also intend to publish new games, which the ACW Series is the first one to get a new game, Forgotten Campaigns: https://wargameds.com/products/forgotten-campaigns

WDS has been doing support & enhancements for JTS games since 2016. All games will be rebranded under the WDS name. Their original site link and JTS' site link will route to the new address: https://wargameds.com

Their About Us section briefly mentions the change: https://wargameds.com/pages/about-us-wds

There's a great FAQ section that talks about the changes: https://wargameds.com/blogs/news/wargam ... -campaigns

A key point mentioned: All games purchased through John Tiller Software are completely supported in the same manner that JTS has supported them for years.

The folks at WDS have been working on the various series for years and we've all benefitted from that for sure.

So this is great news on the continued legacy of what John started! 8)

WDS also just sent out an email about the changes to those on the JTS mailing list.

Holy crap it seems like every game in the ACW series is / will be updated to version 4.00. Even games outside the ACW series got / will be getting updates.

https://wargameds.com/pages/updates-civil-war-battles

I am getting timed out on the download links though.

I wonder if the save games are backwards compatible?

Quite possibly not. You are advised to finish any ongoing games with your current install.

Note: It is possible to support multiple installs of the same game(s). In the install procedure, just be sure to install to a different location. For example: c:\Games\JTS [old] -> c:\Games\WDS [new]. That should leave undisturbed your older install(s), with any ongoing saved games.

Good luck.

Has anyone had this problem? I tried down loading a couple of games that I am not current playing and I get this download message. Salerno43_400msi isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust Salerno 43_400msi before you open it. then I click learn more and a report page comes up. I can not open file. I am running Windows 10 Edge.

Yes, it occurred with my download. You just have to be persistent and work through all the safeguards. A bit inconvenient, but I appreciate the protection.

Exactly what Mike said. I get the same issue.

Also, not sure if it's impacting too many folks here but the WDS page itself for downloads might be slow on occasion due to demand.

In Windows 10, there is a security setting called Reputation-based protection. (Do a menu Search and find it under App & browser control.)

In Edge, you would access this via Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services > Security > Microsoft Defender SmartScreen.

Toggle the feature OFF to bypass the protections. You might still get warnings, but you should be able to proceed with the download, then the install. When finished with all of your downloads, and installs, remember to toggle Reputation-based protection (or SmartScreen) back ON again.

These false positive security blocks/annoyances should gradually disappear over time.

Ah... security checks by Microsoft... how fun.

Reminds me of a little story... (in my best Abe Lincoln voice)...

There was a soldier who was wounded and working his way back through the picket lines one night. He forgot the password and the pickets wouldn't let him get any closer in the darkness. He then began to swear using every profanity known to him and filling the night air with enough foul language to make a sailor blush. Finally the pickets allowed him to stand up and pass their lines believing that only an American could know as many curses as all that.

... might I suggest trying this on your PC.
