My brother is an avid Mac user. I am trying to get him into gaming. Can the HPS and TalonSoft games be played on Macs[?] If so, what about the patches[?][?]

I don't know about the BG games, but you can play all the HPS titles on a MAC using this program, and a good bit of RAM:
