Post subject:  HPS Artillery Question

Ok, gentlemen. I'm sure that the answer to this question exists in the documentation somewhere, but I thought I would give you the opportunity to display your vast knowledge of the game.

I'm currently playing two campaigns of Corinth (1.03), which are my first two games with the 'new' HPS engine. I've got all these 1 and 2 gun artillery units sitting around, that I have stacked together to form 6-8 gun batteries. Now, my question is this: is there a firepower benefit to firing them all as one? I do understand that if I fire them all as one, it only presents one target for the dreaded opportunity fire (my experience with THAT has been that it ALWAYS fires ... for my opponent!), but I really want to know if firing them together makes the shot more 'powerful'.

Thanks for your help!

But you will inflict more damage, because more guns are firing. However, if fired one at a time, it should equal about the same, depending on the "die" roll. Personnally, I always fire my units as a stacked single shot. Like you said, it reduced counter firing!

General Gast,

As one of your opponents, I feel duty-bound to inform you your artillery will fire much more effectively if you have them all about-face first [:D] !

If you are foolish[:D] enough to use the "Turn" based system, you want to fire them combined since they may trigger counter fire on each shot otherwise.

Otherwise, HPS uses a formula to determine hits that unlike the Battleground tables produces the same result statistically whether you fire combined or individually.

But sir, if all my gunners about face, they'll have to sight over their shoulders with mirrors. Then, when your men fall to my artillery fire, they'll feel even dumber than they do already for signing up for the wrong side![;)]
