It's amazing how these old maps differ in important respects. I found this site while looking for maps of north central Maryland as I was playing a meeting engagement between the ANV and AoP in one of the HPS GB scenarios. The ANV attempts a march along a hard-surface turnpike from Emmitsburg toward Baltimore, turning the AoP's right. The game has the Pike running through Taneytown, which you can find on Bruff's 1863 map of Maryland and Virginia. Colton's 1864 map shows no such major road, however, between Emmitsburg and Westminster. Beyond Westminter, Bruff's shows the pike turning south toward Finksburg, while Colton's plots a major route directly southeast to Reiserstown, agreeing with the HPS map.

No wonder those armies got lost all the time.[:(]

Yeah the American Memory Project is a big initative over there. It has a lot of old and really neat stuff online a lot of old films that I assume would otherwise be lost, a fair amount of turn of the century stuff. We reviewed some of it in Library School.

Good stuff!! I can only hope to work for them when I am done with my Masters.
